Found the Kistler Micro Mag TS on sale for $150 but I can't find a whole lot of reviews on it. So, how would the 7' Heavy model compare to the 715 Phenix Recon for jigs (3/8 - 3/4oz), T-rigs and C-rigs? I wanted to use braid + a FC leader, but I'm hesitant with the micro guides. If the rod is that good I definitely don't mind going straight braid, no leader, or straight FC. I have another set up that I can use for bottom contact lures that I already have braid + leader. Thanks in advance.

TT did a review on them (http://tackletour.com/reviewkistlermicromg.html). i had the 7-footer...they aren't light...the factory says 4.6 ounces but mine was 4.8 and it felt heavier in my hands. the recon 715 is an amazing 3.65 ounces.

Phenix has a better warranty and rod vs the micro magnesium. I would get the recon all the way. I love my 714 and have heard great things about the 715.

Definitely the Phenix. Although Kickerfish is a cornhusker fan, he knows a thing or two. The upcoming discounts will make the phenix even cheaper. Arv! We've been through this! Lol

If you want some more options check out the m1 line from phenix. Phenix is doing some good things in the market right now.

I'm sorry, I should have known better...haha. Just wanted to make double sure on the Recon because what I heard about the Kistler was good. I think I'll stick with my original choice. Plus the Recon looks way better than that ugly green. Thanks guys.

i wasn't a fan of the kistler mcmag. for one, the blank had these little spiral ribs on them that just didn't feel good to me. it also felt heavier to me than the listed weight, meaning that it didn't seem to balance well. finally, it didn't have enough guides! if you look at the guide count, it has one less guide than the majority of other rods of similar length and action...for example, the 7' MH/F has 8 guides plus the tip, most others should have 9 guides plus the tip. when flexed even a little, the line was bowing below the rod blank and i don't like that.

Same here for my 6'9" all purpose, the line would slap the blank, until the trolling motor and 4 footers killed it...

How heavy are you looking to go? Might also want to take a look @ the new M1s. Supposed to be similar sensitivity to the recon but more durable.

I was actually thinking about the M1 yesterday. I haven't done any research on it yet but if its only about 10 bucks more it may be worth it. The power seems to be in line with what I'm looking for as well. The only think I'm slightly worried about is that it has an XF action as opposed to the the F action of the Recon. People have said that the Recon is more like a Mod-F action though, which I like since I will probably be fishing braid. Do you know anything about the tip on the M1? Thanks.
