Fishing the LARGER(SOFT) stickbaits

Featured Replies

Picked up a few packs of LARGER YUM Dingers yesterday.Do these fish any differently than a regular 5 inch stickbait?

I love fishing stickbaits wacky rigged,Im afraid that I might tear these larger ones in half on the cast rigging them wacky style. Or should I just fish them weightless t-rigged?

are you talking about the 6inch ones? if so i have more success fishing them weightless weedless than wacky rigging

I've seen people tape the middle of the stickbait with electrical tape then use a hook with a weedless wire guard

dingers are pretty durable, much more so than senkos.  You should be fine, just make sure you cast smoothly, not a big whipping action.

yea i forgot to mention that dingers is what i use i like them better than senkos mainly because of durability but also had just as many if not more bites on them than the senkos i had. My 3 biggest fish last year were all caught on 6" yum dingers two on watermelon black seed and one on watermelon red seed

FYI I think stickbait is kinda vauge. I didnt know if you were talking about large Zara Spooks or what. Soft Stickbait is a little clearer. No offense meant I know terminology is different everywhere.

Anyway for a while now dragging 7in senkos with a 3/16oz sinker has been a go 2 tactic on Amistad when the bite is slow. There was an article in FLW Outdoors about it. Might be something to try in clear water when you want big bites.

The bait im asking about is 7 inches long, has a slot like a Dinger and has the smell of the YUM LPT and salt.

Im not exactly sure these are Dingers, they came in a Plano box which I purchased off Ebay.In the same Plano box are Swim Senkos,Zoom Lizards and some Biffle-O's. The seller described these baits as Dingers though.

Does the Dinger come in a 7 inch size?

For the big soft sticks(7 inches) you will need at least 1 6/0 wide gap hook while I prefer a 7/0 monster or a gamakatsu g-mag. Just fish it as you would any other senko style bait. I prefer to rear weight mine with a nail and use it like a jerkbait or also crawl it on the bottom, wind one or two times slowly, just enough to make it lift off the bottom, pause and repeat. Wacky rigged on a weighted wacky hook. The falcon lures k-wacky hook fits the bill rather well.A 7 ft MH rod is prefered as this is a heavy thick bait. I also like to use the large ones at night a lot of times.

This is a bold in your face bait. You won't get near as many strikes with it but they will normally be pigs. It takes a little confidence to stick with it like any larger bait if your not accustomed to throwing them. In my neck of the woods spring is senko time and so this is best time to throw the cuban cigar at em.
