Jerkbait question

Featured Replies

So I am a little embarrassed to say that I do not own one single hard jerkbait.  I would like to add these to my arsenal this year.  I am wondering how these baits perform in rather muddy water?  I think I read somewhere that they weren't a good choice in muddy water.  Any other tips/advice/bait/gear recommendations will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Cliff

you want relatively clear water when fishing jerkbaits.  They are mainly a site bait.

i like a floating jerkbait, that can be splashed, in stained water ,the racket helps bass find it, i like the rapala f-11 or f-13,siver foil or the gold foil , if its really muddy you can add a small blade from a beetle spin on the back split ring ,it can sometime tangle on the back hook though.. thats something im still experimenting on..good luck

Thanks guys.  The lake I fish is not really really muddy but it is not clear, maybe murky would have been a better choice of words.

They do work best in clear water, but give them a chance in stained water they will catch you fish.

My favorite jerkbait is a Lucky Craft Pointer 78 size.  My favorite color is American shad.

I usually fish them with a spinning rod and 8 lb. test flourocarbon, but a lot of guys use a baitcaster.

I don't buy into the clarity thing much.  Here in NE we have a tremendous amount of stained/off color water, rarely do we have clear water.  A jerkbait is what accounts for close to 60% of my fish spring through summer.  I do tend to lean towards clown/chart colors in our water, though.
