Oakley Big Bass Tour

Featured Replies

Has anyone fished the Oakley Big Bass Tournament? I'm thinking about trying this out just for the heck of it this summer and would like to know your thoughts on the tournament. It's probably a 4-6 hour trip for me so I wanna know if its really worth my trip.

I'm in no shape or form a pro but the shot at a new boat or even the 500 big bass payout seems like it may be worth a shot.

What are your thoughts??

I fished the one on Smith Moutnain Lake In VA. It was a lot of fun. They had over 200 boats I think it was. diferent format than a typical tourny. I didnt win anything but had fun none the less.

Its defiantly a different format to fish your just one cast away from a good check. I fish the one on gville as well as the big bass splash. You cant go wrong for the money. You should fish at least one in your life who knows you may just get lucky and hit some good fish.

I fish a few of these a year. Not a bad gig at all for $150 for 2 days. Anyones game out there since it is a "Big Bass" Tournament. Hourly Pay out and I have seen 2 and 3 pounders take $1,000. You would definitely respect the 5 bag tournaments more after fishing one of these.

I fished one last year but did not win any money. The tournament was well organized and very well run. They gave constant text messages on your phone to update current weight. To weight a fish all you had to do was pull up to the dock walk about 5 yards and weigh the fish, very quick and well run. Weigh-ins will probably vary with the lake but they used a dock here.

One of the organizers said since this was the first year at this lake the turn out will only be around 200 boats but next year they expect over 500. He said this has been the trend everywhere they have been. So expect a lot of boats compared to last year.....................Al

I fished it last year hoping for a better time in 2013 but I'm following my luck this year even staying in same cabin as last year at Buffalo Creek, lol.
