fishing muddy southern rivers

Featured Replies

i'll  be fishing the coosa river next week for two weeks and i hear the river is pretty muddy.what lures would you recommend in these conditions this time of year?  thanks

Believe it or not, I've done real well fishing a 4" blk w/ chart berkley ringworm. Fish it on a 3/16 slider spider head or shakey head. If the fish are shallow, a manns baby 1- in gold blk could also work.

What section of the coosa river will you be fishing? I like to fish north of Cooter's pond and just south of Wetumpka and the dam on lake Jordan. While water clarity ranges depending on recent precipitation and how they are running the dams, it is mostly stained. I have found cranks and watermelon or pumpkinseed worms to be my favorite things to throw. Creek mouths always seem to be the best places to fish. Good luck and have fun. I am going this weekend and the forecast looks terrific!

Cranks:

Bandit 300- Blue back herring

Norman- splatter back black

BPS XPS- texas shad

Lucky Craft- MS American Shad

Worms

Zoom-MagII

Zoom-Ol' Monster

Zoom-Lizards

all i fish for the most part are muddy rivers. recently i've had the best luck with a spinnerbait with the skirt replaced with any paddletail swimbait thrown in and around reeds and dead pad stems. next up would be my stanley black and blue finesse jig with a 3 1/2 in yum money craw trailer. actually its hard to say which one is most productive. if one isnt working, the other will

black tube is a great bait for muddy water fished around any wood cover. Im a huge fan of forcing fish to bite so i like brightly colored squared billed cranks that have a very wide wobble.
