I was going to install a trolling motor pedal recess tray.

 

After reaching in under the deck it feels like there is a rib or some type of reinforcing fold in the fiberglass where I would be cutting into the deck.

 

I have just about decided that cutting into that rib or reiinforcement fold would not be a good idea and I would be better off skipping the recessed pedal tray all together.

Have I mis-appraised the situation?

When in doubt take it to a shop and get their advice and or let them do it.

The pedal tray is not hard to install, however you do not want to cut into any supports for your vessel, can you relocate the area you wish to install the tray? slide it back enough to allow the tray to clear the support ribs?

Yeah......weighed the electric steer option...........probably should have gone that way but decided against it and went with a cable steer.

 

can't move it.............the rib is in the middle of where it needs to go.

found a post or two regarding installation on a procraft......he cut thru it and then reinforced it.......not sure how.

 

I think I will probably continue without the recess tray because it does not sound like a sound decision to cut through the support. That's a decision you make wrong and it will cost ALOT of $$$ to fix.

Well, it's not something I would suggest doing but it can be done, no matter how much you think you are reinforcing the beam you are still taking a chance.

 

How much of the top part of the tray do you think would be exposed if you installed it over the rib?

 

I am not sure how you feel about this suggestion but what I am thinking is if you really want to sink your pedal you may be able to build your own tray or modify the one you already have for a partial depth installation.

it is metal.........I'm open to modding it.

I will have a better idea Saturday........I will have more time to in there and assess/look at it.
