I was thinking of getting a hot foot. Worth it? Also, can someone tell me how it works as far as going from reverse/neutral/forward? Do you still use the original boat throttle for gear change? Any general info would be appreciated.

I couldn't imagine being without now that I've had it for 9 years.  Response time is definitely quicker for stopping/slowing.  Also, if you run heavy chops where you are on and off the throttle to maneuver through it, it is very nice.  Plus the added benefit of keeping both hands on the wheel.

X3. Once you get it you will never look back. My work boats (carolina skiffs) have throttle control accel, and i cant stand it when the water gets rough.

for 150hp and above they are almost a must although my last two boats were 19 1/2' Stratos's w/ 200 hp and niether had one. I don't like them and I don't usually fish huge lakes. now I have a 19' tin with a 115 and I don't feel I need one. I think the biggest thing to get used to is pulling up to a dock. I know they used to sell one that let you use either the foot or hand, but I have'nt seen them for a while.

It is most cerainly worth it. If you don't have hydraulic steering then I would say you MUST have it.

i have hydrulic stearing. My main reason for wanting it is so i can use 2 hands on the wheel. Is it easy to get used to?

Its much like driving a car. Except for "letting off" of it is like moving back on throttle. You will really enjoy it...its very natural after you do it the first time

It will take a couple trips to feel comfortable.  After a dozen trips it will be natural.  After a couple years you won't even know your using it.

 

The first time putting it on the trailer made me the most nervous, but all went well.

Get it.  They are an absolute safety necessity in my opinion.  I will not have another boat without one.
