If you go through Genes video he is actually using that combo in a video that shows set up and how to cast it too.

Welcome to the forum.  It is always nice to see young people getting into the sport.  Lucky you....you live where it is possible to fish all year long.  I am envious.  :)

I haven't used a Black Max lowprofile, but I do have 3 older Black Max round reels, and am thrilled with how they perform in windy conditions with light lures.  I did pick up a combo at DSG that had a Black Max on it.  Gave the spool a spin and was totally surprised at how long it free spooled.

There are plenty of fishing articles on this site....none very long.  Spend some time reading a few that interest you.  I'm sure you will find them informative.  Also read through posts on the different forums.  Deciding on what lures you would rather fish will help determine how to set the reel up.

Your question is too general for anyone to give advice that may pertain to how you fish.  What type of lures will you be using?  How heavy?  In what kind of cover?  I visit the Deland area, and always take my STX loaded with 40# Sufix Performance.  It is my go to reel for fishing in heavy weeds.  Many think 50-65#  would be better.  Maybe if I was punching or throwing frogs, but it works fine for me throwing unweighted worms.

If you fish in areas similar to where I fish when in Florida, then I would suggest nothing lighter than 12 if using mono, or 15# if using flurocarbon line.  Fluoro is the wrong line to learn how to cast a b/c reel.  Braid is easier to pick out backlashes on while mono is definitely the least expensive way to go.  That is what I used to learn on.  Sounds like you might be new to b/c reels.  If so, then search, and you will find plenty of posts on learning to use a b/c reel.  Don't forget to read through the pinned thread as well.

Good luck.
