So I got this bait caster rod and reel from LgMouthGambler (I never used on before in my life!) the other day and finally had some time to test it out today! I love it! I especially love how I can control the cast distance by adjusting how much line goes out, with my thumb! OMG I'm hooked! Of course I bird nested couple of times but managed to untangle the line, but after about 30 minutes of bird nesting or smashing the lure 3 feet from me into the water I finally figured it out LOL :-)

 

Anyways, so I hit the canal near my house, and I caught some nice size fish! I used a swim fluke in shad color, threw it at the bank's edges and pulled a nice 3lbs (at least :-) ) Pics attached. I hooked the same fish twice! First time she got away, and then I casted in the same direction and I pulled it on shore. Later I walked up to the spot I casted over and noticed there was a bass bed there, so I must have aggravated the baby mama into hitting my plastics, twice!

 

Also, I'm starting to understand the advantages of bait casting rigs over spinning rigs... I think I'm hooked on the new setup :-)

 

Overall a great 2 hours out fishing around my neighborhood!

  I remember my first few fish on a baitcaster. It gets you hooked on the setup pretty quickly.

I've been meaning to get me a baitcaster I will probably get one this summer.

I tell you, I've been using bait casters so long that I dont even like to use a spinning set up for small weightless worms. I would rather spend more on a bait caster that will throw them lol. I will be purchasing one in the future tho. They just make more sense for extreme finesse fishing and shore/pond fishing.

 

I actually started with a bait caster. I did it the wrong way lol.

 

What I love about then is the ability to finesse you bait out to spots and finesse the spool with your thumb for accuracy. Plus they haul those fatties out of the crap. 

I went straight from a zebco 33 to a baitcaster my dad refused to own a spinning reel and there was no way he was going to let me use one. To this day I only use a spinning reel when pan fishing.

Yes! The ability to control the casting distance is amazing! I can "over cast" and then slow the lure down in mid air and land it exactly where I need it to go! I was casting across a canal yesterday that was maybe 25-30 feel wide, i wanted to land the lure right on the other edge of water, and once I got the hang of it I was able to do it with every cast! another thing i really like is that I can cast at any time regardless of the reel position, what i mean is that on spinning reels you have to have the ring that hold the line in certain place before you can open it up to cast, on a bait caster it's a non issue.

Congratulations! I can't wait to get myself one. I got an Abu Garcia rod the other day. I just need to get a reel to go with it.
