Anyone Installed Struts On Their Rod Lockers To Hold Open?

Featured Replies

I want to install some struts to help keep my rod lockers open, has anyone done this?  Where do you install the strut in relation to the door and deck?  What Strut did you buy?  I think this would make a really helpful add-on to my boat.  Thanks in advance.

I want to add these to my lockers also, but I'm not sure how to measure since they come in different lenths.

I added a couple of these http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-8-Hatch-Support-Spring/product/83196/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&om_mmc=shopping_googleproductextensions&kpid=83196 and just mounted them at 45 degrees when the rod locker or hatch is open. There cheap and never go bad like gas shocks.

Good info. Of all the compartment on my boat, only 2a of the gas shocks are still good. Im going this route eventually

They make them in various lenghts and mounting options. I've proabably installed about 15 of them over the past 10 yrs on several boats.
