Alphas Gear Upgrade

Featured Replies

Just swapped gear sets in three of my Alphas to the new PX-R 6.8:1 gears. I left one as is, for small crankbait duty. For any with an Alphas or Sol, this is a very nice upgrade. Went from about 21" per crank to between 25 and 26" per crank. I haven't had them out on the water yet, just backyard casting, but this cures the only complaint I've ever had with the Alphas.

What I did not expect was how much smoother the new gear set feels. May be the smoothest gears I've felt in a reel. I'll have to wait until I get a fish on the line to say that for sure, but at this point in time, I am impressed.

Thanks Mrs Ghoti's Old Man!    My Alphas ito is the smoothest retrieving reel I have.  However, I have no idea if gears are stock.  Would assume so as the seller never mentioned differently.  I have a couple Sols and TD-Zs.  Would this gear set work in the TD-Zs?  May have to give them a shot in a couple different reels.  Looking forward to the update.

It is a fantastic upgrade and also not too tough of a swap. I just did one of mine along with adding carbontex drag washers. Looking to add clicky's before too long.

I'm pretty sure that gear set will not work in a TD-Z. It will work in a Sol.

Thanks.  Still need to pick up at least one 100M spool to try in one of my Fuegos.
