I wanting a good jig rod for deep rocky bottom wants to throw 1/4 to half ounce and every now and then 1 oz football jigs. Just want to know real good length and action please help. I fish rocky lake points and flats and docks. Want to throw braid any suggestions? under $160 please

For $160, I'd go with a Crucial 7'2" Medium Heavy fast....or you possibly could find a deal for a St Croix Avid 7' MH/F.  Either one should be good and sensitive enough to do what you want.

Heard alot of good things about the Duckett rod!

Check under powell casting rods on tackle warehouse. They make a "football jig specific rod" its like 7'5 i believe.. check it out. any MH rod between 7'2-7'6 will work good. You want a longer rod to get a good hookset in thag deep water. I use two rods for my football heads, a 7'3 & 7'6 both work well.

As for line, i use 30lb braid to 12lb fluoro. Works perfect !

Check out the *** *** rods in the 7'3 or 7'6 length. There what i use for my football jigs, And are plenty sensitive and good backbone for hooksets.

exactly, the lightest football jig i use is 1/2 and the shallowest i fish them is 18-20ft. when your down that deep and dealing with current, wind etc... its hard to feel your bait. when you bump up to heaver lures it eliminates those problems

ya 7'3 to 7'6 MH rod will be perfect for you. a nice rod thats pretty cheep that would be perfect for you would be the 7'6 powell desiel

764 powell endurance is an amazing football jig rod and lighter cover flipping rod.it will throw up to a 3/4 ounce jig no problem.i never fish football jigs heavier than that so i cant say for sure how well the rod will perform with a 1 ounce jig.i do agree the 765 diesel is a great rod as well excellent multi purpose rod.

Powell Max 753 Jared Lintner FB jig rod is what I have and like. A 1/4 jig might be a little too light for that rod though; unless you're talking about short line situations (pitching/ flipping) which I don't think you are.

Natural colors. Green pumpkin, with a green pumpkin rage craw is my personal favorite.

twin tail grubs work great as a football jig trailer.
