Flipping And Pitching Setup?

Featured Replies

Okuma Helios LP Casting Reel matched with a 7'1" *** Black Med Heavy Rod.

What do you think? It'll be my first combo set for only flipping/pitching and I was thinking about pairing it with some flouro...

But flouro sinks if I am not mistaken, and I am quite the line watcher, anybody have a solution to that? I hate using braid too.

That set up will do fine for light to moderately heavy cover. For really heavy cover i would have gone with a longer heavier power rod.

I bet the Helios looks great on that rod!

Fluoro is great for pitchin and flipping, the line sink is a good thing, its excellent for slack line, bite detection. (When your bait is falling) Floro is very sensitive IMO. If you werent using braid, id say use try some fluoro line.

I dont know how heavy your cover is, but 16lb fluoro is a good start.

I live in Florida, so moderate to heavy cover generally. I was going to go with a Heavy rod, but I love feeling every nibble I get, and I am not sure if I am going to get that same sensitivity with a Heavy rod.

Do you think that the sensitivity of flouro will make up for the loss of being able to line watch?

Thanks for the reply!

Dude, you will be able to line watch. Just try and see. I like that it sinks, you will see it gets hit. But even if you dont see it (night time or not pay attention) you will feel it.

Rod power doesnt dictate sensitivity. I have a 7'7H that is the most sensitive rod i own.

Try the combo out and see howw you like for pitchin florida cover, if not heavy enough, get a 7'6 H or Extra Heavy next time and use that set up for something else.
