Northeast River Md

Featured Replies

Whats going on guys? I'd like to chat with you Maryland natives some about the NorthEast River.

Ive been watching some youtube videos with deleware valley outdoors and doing some research and it seems theres some good man-made structure to be worked along the northeast. As well as a few coves with some grass that produce nice fish.

My club has a tournament there next thursday on 5/16 and im going down there tommorow with my boat to get a look at a few things and see how far ill beable to go with a 10 horse motor. Ill be launching out of anchor marine. My goal tommorow is to run down to furnace cove but somthing tells me this might be a little far for a 10hp motor. What do oyu guys think?

Id love to learn some about the fishery.

What size /type of boat are you running ?

The run to Furnace Bay from Anchor  is about 7 - 8 miles down the Northeast and around Carpenter Point.  Can be done in a smaller boat no problems if it is not windy.

But, throw in a 10 - 15 wind and it can get choppy once you get too far out of the no wake zone in the Northeast ( from the launch, straight out about 400 yards is no wake zone )

No wake goes from the East Point of the creek mouth up top, then draw a straight line down to the North point of the 3rd Canal, everything inside is no wake.

Hey when we went down we decided it was a little too far for my boat to run. Tommorow ill be fishing at the tournament with my club. When i was down last week we stayed in the north east and fished some docks and bulkheads without a hit. The fish must all be out at the flats because they are catching them like crazy down there. Anyway thanks for the map. Im fishing with my club president who has a bigger boat and were going to the grass.

Furnace Bay right now does not have weeds in it, they are all out in front of it on the actual flats. From the end of the no wake its exactly 4.14 miles which is about 8-9 minutes at 40mph.

BTW, the best fishing is NOT out in that grass. So much pressure the past week that its pushed a lot of the nicer fish out of there and onto hard cover. Im not going to say where exactly but Ive been down there 4 days this past week and Im about the only guy not out there and it seems to be staying consistent where the grass isnt

I've been making that run for 25 years, and unless you found a shortcut across the point  LOL, it is just about 7 miles from the no wake at Anchor to Furnace bay.  It's 4+ miles from Anchor to Carpenter Point.

Not really sure what I was thinking when I posted that. I was more or less referring to the flats out in front of furnace bay. The bay itself is an easy 2-2.5 miles past where I am talking about. I meant the flats out where that giant tree is out in the grass straight out from carpenters pt
