Although my other casting skill's are good, I have to admit, I need help with my skipping technique, my 1st question is, it best to peg the bait or not? Any and all help would be appreciated! Thank's Junebugmn

Peg it.  You don't want the bait/weight separating when it hits as you want the least amount of surface resistance on your rig as possible.   Similarly you don't want to use a bait with a lot of big appendages,  I find a compact bait to be best.

My best success is with an unweighted bait. I use a 6,3" medium x fast spinning rod. 6 or 8lb test line, and find that a super fluke is hard to beat for skipping. If it's real windy I'll stick a nail weight in the bait. It's deadly on docks.

I also use inside tube jigs for the tube baits.You can skip those suckers really easy and a long ways.

Peg it, and i use a spinning outfit . Why, i can get more power behind a spinning outfit  when skipping.  the farther you can get back under a pier or boat lift the better your odds. If you have a small opening between the water and pier  if you miss and hit pier you don get a backlash on spinning on baitcast  you might as well cut and start over, i use # 30 power pro  braid

My new favorite skipping bait is the Sebile soft  plastic Magic Swimmer.  Just using this bait has made me better at skipping.  I even skip it when I don't have to, like casting across points with no obstacles or anything.  A few times, I swear, the skippiing action drew the fish to the bait.  I don't have any proof for that, other than I think that's what happened.  I'm using fireline with a fluorocarbon leader.

I haven't spent alot of times skipping but I used my spinning outfit with a fat ika yesterday and I skiped that baby a mile!! I would have been even happier if I could have caught a fish LOL!

If you like to throw tubes try finding internal tube weights.  They work good.  I like 1/16 oz.  Other options I like to skip with are weightless senkos rigged wacky style or super flukes.  If you are having problems skipping,  try skipping in open water until you get the hang of the cast.  The docks I'm used to fishing I need to stay a good distance from because of water clarity so I like to use 7ft rod.  The long rod really propels the bait a long way under the dock,  plus I have better hooking power being farther away.
