Lowrance 4X Dsi Problem

Featured Replies

I have a elite 4x dsi unit mounted on my 8 ft scamp transducer is on the back screen is on the front and trolling motor is on the front, the problem I'm having is I'm picking up a lot of static on the screen unless I have the surface clarity on high, even then I still have some static, this happens in any depth and clarity of water was wondering what is causing this, I do have trolling motor wires ran next to fish finder unit wires, didn't know If this would cause this. It also happens when I'm sitting still to. Hope to have some good opinions from u guys, Thanks

C-roy  does this unit do that when you run your trolling motor or does it do this all the time, the only thing I can think of is, in the box the unit came in there is a round black thing with wires sticking out both ends sorry I can't think of the name of it, this part that goes between the battery and the unit on the positive side of the battery to reduce interference in this unit. Hope this might help you out.

It does it when I'm sitting still and when I'm moving, I have the filter wired in, wondering if trolling motor wires next to fish finder wires are interfering with it, thanks for the input

C-roy  does your boat have one battery or two if the unit has the filter inline installed one thing that might cause this problem is the unit sharing the same battery with the trolling motor this is one thing that could cause that kind of problem with dsi units. hope this might help you

It is sharing the same battery as trolling motor, I hope this isn't the problem, 2 batteries in a scamp ugh lol, thanks ill try unhooking trolling motor next time I go out and see if that fixes it. Thanks again

If it does it when the trolling motor is not on, then it is in the unit itself. Either a setting or bad unit.

A pic of what you are looking at would be helpful.  It could be electrical interference, or just natural clutter caused from waves/air bubbles, suspended particulates, plankton, etc.

I have run into this myself on my units, I have 2 elite4's and 2 mark4's along with 2 elite5's.  I found that switching between 800 and 455 mhz and playing with water clarity will often clear it up.  Be aware these units are so sensitive they do show the plankton and other stuff in the water so some of this you have to live with.

Ill try and get a pic up. Set on 455 with surface clarity on high is useless nothing but cluder only really works on 800 MHz with surface clarity on high even in clear water. has me stumped. Guy I work with has same unit and he says he don't have this problem and he fishes muddy rivers, thanks for the input ill try and get pics put up.

I do have a lot of excess transducer wire wrapped up stuffed behind the battery could this cause interference?

My only suggestion would be to go into the menu and do a restore factory defaults.  This has cleared up several little issues I have had with my units in the past that I couldn't figure out on my on.
