Improving Hollow Frog Hook-Ups And Hooks

Featured Replies

Do you guys use any modifications to help improve the hook-up ratio on frogs?

I remember reading and seeing a picture in a bass magazine where there was about a 3/0 ewg hook coming out of the back of the frog riding on top and it was tied to the eye of the hook, has anyone done this?

Also how to the double frog hooks hold up on soft plastic frogs? Do the two hooks actually improve hook-up ratio.

I have an important tournament coming up and I know for sure ill be frogging.

Thanks -Mike

I don't like the Stanley double take hooks because it destroys the legs too quickly. I have never had a problem getting hook sets on these, though.

You can take some pliers and slightly bend out each hook on hollow bodies. Not a ton, but just a little goes a long way.

Remember, when the fish strikes:

1.) Reel out the slack while dropping the rod tip.

2.) Feel for the weight of the fish or watch for line movement.

3.) Set the hook so hard that it permanently crosses the eyes of whatever bass took your frog.

+1 most of the time when you hook a bass with a frog its in the roof of the mouth where its really hard.
