I picked up a package of Zoom Ol' Monster worms a week or so ago and was wanting to get everyone's opinion on the best way to fish them.

 

I initially tried to throw it out, let it sink to the bottom, give it a couple of jerks, reel in a little, and repeat.  I really wasn't getting any action working it that way.

 

I was actually talking on my cell phone at one point when fishing it yesterday and landed a decent bass.  I really wasn't paying much attention to technique unfortunately and now I'm not sure what I did right.  I THINK that I may have just been steadily reeling it in on a very slow retrieve.

 

So what would you guys think would be the best strategy.  As I think about it, it would seem that the steady, slow retrieve would make the most sense so that the curly tail would constantly be in motion and attracting attention.  Thoughts?

Without knowing other details I'd say; T rigged with about a 3/16 oz  pegged

bullet weight. 5/0 offset  round bend hook fished slow in cover.

These are great worms! I have fished them on a T-rig,C-rig,split shot them, and I will cut some of the body off and use them as a jig trailer. You can't fish them wrong just let the bass tell how they want them!

I used to hate them, couldn't buy a bite on them then this winter just used them and used them til I got the hang of it. I fish my 10" ribbon tails with a 4/0 EWG and a 1/8 oz bullet weight. I have had luck on long slow sweeps, couple quick jiggle of the rod and rest, dragging or very slow retireve, and just letting it rest. The thing about the tail is that it is the "flash" that catches the bass's eye, but you don't have to keep it moving steady. Also times when it is windy or water current will keep the tail a going with out you imparting much action. Like the above post says, the fish will tell you how they want it that day.

I run it behind a big 3/4oz bullet and skirt on a 5/0 or even 7/0 hook.  I let it punch in and sit for the most part, working it slowly. 

 

Almost stitching or deadsticking it.  I'll use it on a big round bc reel and use the line alert even.  I think with these big worms I'll find my target spot, put the bait there, and let it work.  If I'm throwing these baits I'm hunting big dawgs, not chasing a full livewell.

Weightless texas rigged thru emergent grass and tossed onto floating matts and sunk through holes or off the edge.  Throw it on bare grass banks and creep it into the water like a snake too.

0119, just posted what I forgot too. This is a good way to fish them also.This worm will catch pigs and numbers!!!!!!
