Fishing On The Northshore/covington Louisiana Area

Featured Replies

Hey everyone. I just recently moved to Covington, Louisiana from West Virginia for the summer. The amount of waterways down here is incredible compared to WV, but it is somewhat overwhelming. I'm not even sure what waterways are too brackish for bass lol. I've been fishing a local pond lately with mild success, but I'm looking to find some other bass fishing locations. Most people around here are more interested in saltwater fishing for specks and reds, so I haven't had much luck asking them. I'm not asking for anyone's honey hole, but if anyone is familiar with the area I'd really appreciate it if you could point me to a few general locations to throw out a line. I'd prefer locations in the Covington/Madisonville/Mandeville area for quick trips after work, but I'm willing to travel down to Slidell or Hammond too.

Edit: For the record, it might be nice to split these region subforums up in a little more detail. Southern LA and northern Michigan don't have all that much in common to be labeled as the same region. Just a suggestion.

Caleb, it looks like you attend The West Virginia University and are in Louisiana for the summer. Now if that is not cultural shock I don't know what is.

There are guys from Louisiana on the Forum. In fact, there is a newbie that just introduced himself so look him up. He lives in Covington.

If you are not from Louisiana you need to cross that 24-miles of scenic water bridge and head to the French Quarter. But first go to Serio's for a fantastic roast beef poboy and a Barq's. Tell Mike Serio Sam sent you but go after the College World Series as Mike is in Omaha now.

Locate a few fresh water tackle shops or ones that sell fresh water tackle and ask the guys where are good places to fish. They should be able to guide you unless they are from Toolame and then they will send you to the "funny" bars in the Quarter.

All the best while in Louisiana. Just remember Louisiana's slogan: Come as You Are - Leave Different!

I'm from Covington and fishing the local rivers is you best opition.   I have not lived in the area for 20 yrs but all the lakes/ponds around there were private.   The area has tripled in population since I was there and the ponds I fished are gone now.    Like you said, saltwater fishing is the big draw down there, take advantage if you get the chance.

Thanks for all the tips. It's definitely a culture shock coming from WV to LA lol. I was in New Orleans this past weekend and actually stayed in a hotel right across from Serio's. If I'd have seen this post before then I definitely would have stopped in.

A lot of the lakes and ponds are private I've noticed. I'll have to take my chances on rivers I guess. I may head down to the southern part of the Tcefuncte, but from what I hear that river is awful tough to fish.
