Going To Some Ponds Tomorrow, Pretty Big What To Take??

Featured Replies

All i know is there is bass, cats and bluegills. one pond does have a peer, but the other are just your random ponds. They are located on the properaty of an old asylum, so i doubt the get much traffic, seen a pic, has stumps, your everyday laydowns but dont know how the avaliblility to get to these are. since a fair amount of walking will be done, I am thinking 4 rods, casting T-rig and throwing jigs., of course my frog rod, a shakey head/senko. my forth rod not sure, will be going around 5 in evening.  would a spinner bait or swim jog work. my pitchin stick. a Medium rod for flukes.. any help

Buzz, did that big storm that hit the southeastern part of Virginia travel to your pond or did you escape the cold fronts moving towards the coast?

If the cold front came through you can throw whatever you want and don't be concerned about not getting a bite.

If you lucked out and the weather held steady then here are my suggestions:

1.  Senko. Green Pumpkin or Watermelon depending on water color or your favorite Senko (YUM Dinger) color fished wacky.

2.  Shaky Head with Green Pumpkin trick worm.

3.  Drop Shot with any Robo Worm or finesse worm you wish to throw.

4.  Crankbaits.

5.  Spinnerbaits.

6.  Chatterbaits.

7.  Brush Hogs (baby and regular); Rage Tails of any type; Northstar Jigs and Pigs; Swimming Northstar Jigs and Pigs; JIKA rig.

Dip tails of plastics in lime JJs Magic or Spike-It.

Use scent on all baits, hard and plastic.

If it was a pretty day they will be near the pier so throw your plastics around and under the pier along with your crankbaits.

Otherwise, just throw what you want until you find them or they find you.

Don't forget your needle nose pliers.

Walk softly and if possible about 50-feet off the bank when moving around and cast from 10 or so feet from the bank where possible.

Keep a log on what you threw and caught for future reference when you return to this pond.

Have fun and add to this thread when you get back home and let us know how you did and what they hit.  Post some pics, too.

Yep. After a cold front passes through the bass usually go into hibernation.

Now this does not mean you cannot aggravate them into hitting your baits.

But it may slow your catching count down.

So fish slow but go fishing, anyway.

Throw whatever you planned on throwing.

Remember, blue bird skies after a cold front means the bass will hunker down for one or two days. The bass will also hold to cover so hit all piers, stumps, rocks, wood, grass, etc. you can find and look for any drop-offs where the bass will he holding or just cruising around.

The bass will feed hard before and during a cold front and then rest for a day or two. But they will hit your bait if you aggravate them or they believe it is an easy treat.

Now go out and let us know how you did.

Itchy and covered in mud. We decided that we would return when we were moderanlty clean... but looks promising.

Let us know how you do on the pond.

From your description the pond may not have had much pressure and the bass will be sitting ducks.

Post pics!

Good luck and please be extra careful.

yea, even through the cussing and fussin in knee high mud, lol I looked at my bro and said if it is that deep in the woods, it may have some nice untouched fish in there; because even the easy way is hardcore deliverance type in the woods stuff.
