Lews Speed Spin 400A Question.

Featured Replies

I bought this reel and an H20 express ethos 6'8 M spinning rod. Basic question. Is this the right set up for throwing out my light weight stuff i.e weightless senkos, rooster tails ect and for finesse fishing? Gonna be trying out the Berkley trilene 100% flurocarbon line on it heard some good things about this line. Basically just looking for some thoughts or suggestions, input ect on what I bought today.

As always thanks & and when ya got em hooked keep them lines tight!

Add on: wanted a medium light rod but they had none in store... so I figured this would work just as well.

Wow nothing so far... shocked...

So what did you end up buying?  How do you like the SS40a? I just bought a SS100a that cast like a dream, I think even better than my Pflueger Presidents.

I haven't gotten to use it yet just bought it yesterday, but it was the speed spin 400a. So that's why I was hoping for some feedback on it. If it performs like my lews baitcaster ( obviously different reels ) but if it's par for what I expect out of lews then I'll be super happy I bought it. Is your SS 100A good for weightless senkos, small rooster tails and basically any finesse fishing styles? Also since I couldn't find a medium light rod did I make thw right choice in just getting the 6'8 Medium H20 Ethos express rod? Here are the rods stats.

Also I chose the #8 Berkley 100% fluro to put on the reel.

Still nothing aye, guess no one uses this reel or a similar enough to give advice o.O

I don't have any idea on the actual rod and reel, but based on the specs you should be okay for the applications you listed. Remember the floro will make your weightless plastics and other baits sink faster.

My SS100a is very smooth and cast well. I have only had it a couple of days. My only compliant is that it sits just a bit to close to the rod and sometimes when flipping the bail it will nick your finger. If I turn the bail just a little CC from the handle all is fine. Mine is on a Medium Fast St Croix 7' so you should be fine with your setup.

Might want to rethink the Berkley Fluro from what I have read it isn't very good. I have Seagar InvizX #6 on mine.

based off those specs, you have a real good finesse setup. i like a short rod for its casting accuracy, and most ALL finesse tactics are within the weight range of your rod. havnt heard anything on the reel, but go use and get back to us on how you like it!
