Have posted this on another forum, but wanted to include it here.

Picked up a new Morrum Mag SX1600C over the winter. Finally got out Friday evening for about an hour's practice with it and a couple other reels. I am liking this reel a lot. It is the only reel I have that I don't need to use my thumb on. When I spool line on my reels, I set the spool tension just tight enough to remove side-to-side play. As I remember this reel was hard to tell where side-to-side play was. (Been a few weeks since I put line on it.) I was able to loosen spool tension a little, and got one loose loop.

I suppose this braking system hurts distance, but I was satisfied with what I was getting with a small squarebill. (Don't know its weight.)

I am impressed with how well my Black Max 1600 reels not only throw light weights, but how well they cast directly into a stiff breeze. No breeze Friday, but don't see how it could make a difference with the Morrum. No thumb on the Black Max caused an over-run.

Naturally the Morrum feels better on retrieve than the Black Max, but should since it cost me about 7 times more. Love how it sounds on the cast, too. ym1.jpg

Now I know there will be some telling me how they can also cast without using their thumb. I have a friend who uses nothing but Shimanos, and he can cast without using his thumb. However............first thing he does when he picks up one of my reels to try is increase its spool tension. I have various model reels from at least 6 different companies (today will receive 2 reels from a 7th company). I can't cast any of them thumb free.

Really a nice piece of machinery.   :teeth3:  Wish I could afford the new Morrum coming out.  It looks SWEET.
