I bought this unit last summer and it just doesn't seem to be working like I think it should. I've read the owners manual and done quite a bit of research online but just not sure what the best settings would be for the sonar and down imaging. I think I've played with every setting and it just doesn't seem to be as clear as I think it should be.

Would any of you care to share your settings with me? I'm starting to think that I need to adjust multiple settings instead on just one at a time to get the absolute best performance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you can find copies of B.A.S.S. TIMES May & June issues 2013 they have  articles on what the pros set there sonar  on. I had the same issues with mine until I read the articles. Very informative. Good luck.  

hey jrsmith, I hope I'm not to late on this but I have the same unit and tried it out yesterday. I would like to know what you came up with if possible. Also any suggestions with the gps if you have it. I don't do facebook or I would have sent you a message. Thanks

I have a 597CI HD DI combo unit and am very new to all of this.  So far, I usually adjust my speed to something close to the trolling speed I am doing.  say 2 - 3 mph.  I then adjust my bottom depth range to double the depth I am in.  So in a cove with 8 - 10 feet of water I would adjust it to 16 - 20 ft.  I then back down the sensitivity a little so that I don't get a screen full of everything.  That gives me a pretty good view in switchfire or B&W and I have been able to find ledges and structure so far.  Catching the fish has proven to be a challenge, but I think I am beginning to learn the hummingbird a little more. 

 

I hope these tips help.  I am sure there are far more things you could set.
