Fishing After Weeks Of Rain

Featured Replies

How should I and others take on lakes and ponds after a week or so or afternoon thunderstorms. Having some knowledge of bass fishing tells me to lighten up my approach and cast to cover but what if that cover is unreachable? Help?

I too live in NC and have had to fish through the recent storms. For me, I have had success with t-rigs the most. I don't know enough about where you are fishing to give you a better answer though.

Can you go into detail about the h20 youre fishing? Lake or pond? Does it have docks? Does it have any grass, or "salad" of any kind? Is it natural or manmade? Are you fishing from shore or from a boat/kayak? How big is this pond/lake? Depth?

I'm fishing a pond? I guess? It's about 1000' x 250'. I guess you could classify it as a small lake. The water color is clear/stained. So I use the green pumpkin colors mostly. I'm also bank fishing, but I can only fish certain areas of this lake. It has medium heavy grass on the bottom. I used the c-rig the first part of June and caught a couple decent 4-5lbers, and now it's not working anymore. What do you think?

Just got home for some pond fishing in Richmond, Virginia.

Both ponds were a muddy mess.

Caught nothing but bluegills on small white grubs for the fun of it.

Not one bass bite.

Water was like chocolate milk which is not a good sign for some fun fishing.

We've been getting a lot of rain here too and the fishing has been pretty good. I fish small quarry lakes. The water is stained, not sure how yours is. The cool rain cooled the water down and a lot of fish moved up into the newly flooded areas. The one I fish the stone company that owns it dumps big chunks of concrete in the and makes awesome rip rap. The fish are all up in there. Unweighted Senkos, squarebill crankbaits, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits have been crushing it for me.

I always bring my 5 foot ultra light ugly stick with 4 pound test with me just in case the bass arent biting I can usually catch a few crappie and bluegill. I use tiny jigheads with little grubs. Caught a 4.2 and a 3.7 on it two weeks ago. Things felt like a freight train! It was an awesome fight. It got me slightly addicted to light line. Lol
