Tungsten question

Featured Replies

I have another tungsten question for those who have used inserts. I am looking at buying some big, heavy tungsten sinkers in the 1 to 1.5 ounce range for fishing grass. I know the weights with inserts are less sensitive, but since I'm going to be using this strictly for flipping and pitching there won't be a need for the sensitivity, just the compact size. My question is, has anyone experienced line fray from these inserts? I'll be using 20 lb fluoro and 55 lb braid. Thanks.

Cant speak for the bigger weights, but I use 1/16, 1/8, 3/16oz weights and they all have the insert.  I have not noticed any fray in my lines and I use 10lb flouro and 30lb braid.  The inserts are meant to protect your line.  The only thing that I have heard about the inserts is that they hamper the sensitivity, but I really have not noticed a difference. So I think you are good to go with the heavier weights.

I have not had line fray on weights with inserts. I use 65lb power pro no floro in the grass. I do not think there is a need for it. Plus the braid cuts through the grass and IMO gives a better hook set. Check out paycheck baits on youtube Bub Tosh will show ya how to rig it.
