Stake Beds.

Featured Replies

On a 6 acre pond (borrow pit really) that I have permission to fish there is shoreline cover that extends out to about 4 F.O.W.. beyond that there is zero cover in the deeper water. The owner is a crappie fisherman and gets me stakes to  hammer into the mud in the deepest parts of the pond. The pond maxes out at 12 feet and most stake beds are built with 12 foot stakes in 10-12 feet of water.

My question is, for better bass cover, would it be better to put large groups of stakes close together? Large groups spread out? Small groups of stakes? Are stake beds even good bass cover?

I do know stake beds will hold bass because on my home lake there is stake beds for crappie and i bass fish around them alot and catch bass. The ones in my lake are about 8orit 10 stakes packed in kinda tight .
