Weights???

Featured Replies

Can someone help with weights? I need to know my sizes in order..it would help a lot. Also whats your favorite punching size for 7' deep of water. I was a 3/8 but all it would do was stay on top of the lily pads. So guys can you help me? Thanks

Weight size for punching isn't so much about how deep the water is, but rather how thick the cover is.  Typically when "punching,"  I stick to a minimum of one ounce sinkers.  The maximum I have ever used is a 1.5 ounce tungsten sinker.  However, sometimes the heavier weight is better because the quick fall will trigger bites better than you think.

With that said, I have been experimenting with miller punch weights as of late, and I am impressed with them.  Make sure you are using a big enough hook, or else you will have hook up issues.  They do look funny, but I assure you they work.

What is under the pads? Any coontail or grass? If you are just punching pads then a 1/2-3/4 should do it. Aim for holes.

1/16.1/8. 3/16. 1/4. 5/16 .3/8 .7/16 .1/2 .9/16. 5/8. 11/16. 3/4. 7/8. 1 ounce.. and for punching seven feet 3/8 should be plenty  I like a slow fall in deeper grass in case bass are suspended under the grass. try pegging the weight. if that doesn't work move up to half ounce. that should deff get through.... there are times however I use a heavy one and ahalf ounce weight to make bass react. the super fast fall can make them bite too. just experiment and see what the fish want. and if you have trouble getting though mats switch up baits. some baits will slip through better than others. for example a senko on a half ounce weight pegged will fall faster though a mat than a tube on a 3/4 ounce weight.. cuz the tube likes to glide side to side and hang up in the grass while the senko slides straight tho to the bottom
