Hi everyone, ive been using the carolina rig the past couple days, caught a couple fish, but missed a ton of strikes, i cant seem to figure out what im doing wrong, ive been seting the hook in a sweeping motion. i probably lost 15 alone today, as far as a rod im using a medium action with 30lb power pro with a floro leader and a size 1 offset hook. i appreciate the help thanks guys

What baits? That hook may be too small.

Be a little more specific. I will say a medium rod is to light IMO.

ive been using straight tail worms, like 5 in trickworms or 7 inch trickworms

What action rod should i use and what size hook, i am still confused as to why im dropping fish 

I use a 7' heavy Falcon Lowrider lizard dragger. I never use anything smaller than 7". I'm not saying you can't use anything smaller, I just don't. I rig a 4/0 hook bare minimum. For larger baits i use a super line hook. I would say the reason you aren't hooking up very well would be due to hook size.

With the 5" use a regular 3/0. With the 7" use a 4/0. Up your rod to a MH bare minimum and see how you do.

Also search for Glenn's video on Carolina rigging. It will help you out tremendously.

Depends. For you I would suggest straight or offset shank. The straight tail worms aren't that thick unless you are using like a Zoom magnum finesse. Which is one of my favorite worms to use about 75% of the time.

I personally like offset better. I think the angle it pulls at allows for a better hookset.

@gripnrip i use both magnum and the regular trick worm, and ill keep you guys posted , probably going to try it out tomorrow , thanks again!

My guess is that you aren't doing anything wrong.  Your rod might be a little light, but that isn't a deal breaker, besides, you are using braid, which should ( in theory) help with the long distance hook setting.

 

I  would say, "Welcome to carolina rigging"  You are going to have days when sticking fish is a challenge.  
From my viewpoint, that is one of the "charms" of carolina rigging.  At least you are getting bit.

 

You might want to go to a little stiffer rod.  Perhaps some kind of scent, to make them hold it longer.  Really, I don't know, I think carolina rigging is a pain and I only do it when I have to.

Me personally I dont like the carolina rig but you are right you will get bites.
