I'm thinking more and more everyday about getting a boat. It would be a 14 or 16 footer aluminum boat and I would fix it up like how i've seen them on this forum. I just started to think that I would probably need a license and tried looking online through the maine fisheries webstie and the state website but they have nothing on obtaining a license for operating a boat. I would call but it's passed business hours. Anyone on this forum live in Maine and is familiar with the laws?

Any motor over 25 hp requires boating license. The license is an easy 8 hour course and in my opinion worth it. I grew up around boats and learned things at the class that are valuable.

I'm not entirely sure that's true JSC, I've been checked a few times by wardens on my lake in Maine and never been asked about a boating license.

I could be wrong my lake is half maine half nh and nh requires it. I should clarify by license I meant safety course which in nh they issue you a plastic card that is good nation wide under nasbla.

Here's a link I found for Maine. I know on the lake I am on Maine warden had asked for the card. Probably just depends on the warden.
