Softening soft plastics question

Featured Replies

This isn't to bash any brand, and it's not to look for a different brand of soft plastics. I use many many different brands. In this case though I'm speaking mainly about Berkley power baits. I have several colors of 10"worms. Some colors are consistently softer than others. Red Shad for instance is softer than Black or Red Bug. My question to you all is; does anyone know of a way to permanently "soften up" plastic baits softer than they come from the factory?

Thank you all for any help you can give

If you're careful, you can take a butane torch and run it over the plastic until it really starts to shine.  You'll see it when it happens.  Makes them a little softer, but a lot less durable.

Leave them in a car for a week prior to use. Works for me, mine stay in the truck unless theyre on the boat.

Adding mineral oil to your bag of baits will cause them to soften somewhat but not to a large extent.

Also allowing your bag of baits to heat up in the sun or otherwise for an extended length of time is another way to soften them and this is not a permanent condition as you probably know.

Hope that helps

If they arent salted (or you dont care about the salt) you can boil them for 15 to 20 seconds. I do this to straighten bent stick baits or swimbaits.
