Are you "burning" the line when tying the knot?

If the main line is curling above the knot then you have burned the line. This happens when you do not wet the line when tying the knot.

If not, can you tell what knot you are using?

No the line is not curling above the knot and an improved clinch knot

hmmm, I use an improved clinch as well and I have never had an issue with the knot. They say not to use it with braid, but I haven't had a single problem tying that knot on braid. Before tying a bait on, rub your fingers on the line to make sure there isn't any frays or anything.

That's the crazy thing Ryneb I was fishing around rocks so every 5 casts I was checking and no knicks or frays

I agree with Sam. If you think that was not the case, maybe your knot slipped, for not cinching down enough??

i use a sandiego jam, works well for me. Is it a new spool? perhaps you got a bad spool?

Bad spool was my other option.

I just put the line on today my first time putting line on my reel

I agree with aquaholic - had to be a bad spool.  I tie the improved clinch and the sandiego jam knot, and have only broken at the knot two or three times ever.

Good tip!
