Cumara Reaction Series Question

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am looking at getting a gen. 1 cumara reaction rod, but cannot decide between the 7' MH or H for swim jigs/spinnerbaits. The lakes I fish have a lot of veggies in them, so I need a rod that has some backbone to not get a good hookset, but rip through vegetation. I also don't want a flipping stick....Does anyone have experience with these rods? Which one would you recommend?

Thanks,

Nick

IMO neither. The reaction series are moderate action and won't give enough backbone for SBs or jigs. I like a fast action or even XF. They are nice crankbait rods though.

I have to disagree with the above post, I have a first gen Cumara 7'7" M reaction rod and it has more than enough backbone for spinnerbaits around weed cover. Now I do agree with Crappiebasser on the point of needing more power for swim jigs in heavy grass. I don't have one but I seem to remember Shimano released a rod in the Cumara line that was around 7'4" that was meant for jigs, frogs, and that sort of thing. I may be off an inch or two on the length but as best I remember that's pretty close. From all reports I've read on the web 99% of the guys who have this rod really like'em, this would be the rod I think I'd be looking for. As a matter of fact if I ever run up on one I'm going to own it. I don't think it was included in the reaction series, I'm thinking it was in the bottom contact group.

Of those two, the heavy.  It's probably the second most used rod in my arsenal for swimjigs and spinnerbaits.  The 7-11 MH XF is a great stick as well.

The Gen 1 Cumara didn't have a jig/frog.  They had a heavy jig rod that was 7-4, and a 7-7 punch rod that were very hard to get.  I would bet there were less than 200 of both those rods out there.  The 7-2 mhxf is the original 1/2-1 ounce jig rod.  The two mentioned above were released two years into the series, and both were considerably slower than their previous bottom contact counterparts.
