Purchased a 6'10" fenwick medium action two piece rod today, planning on using it for jigging and maybe crankbait as well. Will be putting my revo sx 6.4.1 on it

Anyone have one of these rods? Looks like a great rod, i have an older walleye class rod and i love it.

What would you use with that rod?

I have the 6'10" MF one-piece Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth. I like it a lot, but mainly for lighter baits. This year, I've used it primarily for jika rigs, lighter spinner baits, soft plastic jerk baits, and other lighter presentations.

I've used it for some cranking, and it does a nice job. I would think it fine for lighter jigs in sparse cover. In my opinion it would be a bit underpowered for jigs in heavy cover.

I have the same rod.  Very versatile in its weight range.  I don't normally go to the high end as I have plenty of MH rods to handle those weights.  I've thrown topwater, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, flukes and a couple others I can't think of at the moment.

I have this rod but 1 piece.  I use it for light plastics, flukes, and finesse jigs.  It is a great rod and surprisingly sensitive, especially for it's price point.  I buy these rods to fill out my arsenal.  (Fenwick Aetos and Smallmouth)

what do you all consider light spinnerbaits and cranks?

i think the heaviest ones i use are half an ounce, will those be okay for this rod?

i mean it is rated up to 5/8 oz right

Might be too much. I had a very nice time throwing 3/8 oz spinnerbaits with one and it felt like the sweet spot.

hmm well the other options are all MH pretty much.. which i dont like as much

the crankbaits i usually troll and cast with is 7/16 oz and the smaller size is 1/4 oz so i think those are fine

and for spinnerbaits i usually only use the 3/8 oz ones really

I never used 1/2 oz on this rod sorry can't tell, but I couldn't see why it can't handle it. 

Sounds like a nice rod.  Unless dropshotting or buying a rod for a specific technique, I always go with the heaviest-action rod I can stand and let the line do the rest -- has to be good line, consistent like Toray.  Was explained to me by David Dudley years ago, rounds counter to a lot, but works.

That rod would do fine with 3/8oz to 1/2oz spinnerbaits, you can go over that but then you start getting further into the backbone of the rod and it will lose some of the hook setting power. That rod I would say 3/8oz - 7/16ozis probably the sweet spot were you have optimum feel and control while  keeping full back bone for setting the hook.

I'd take smalljaw's advice.  He's definitely a Fenwick guru.  He's the one who recommended my first ET rod and I pulled the trigger and it is now one of my favorite rods that I take out with me.  (Spinning Rod M/XF)

Yeah I own a two Elite Tech Smallmouths 1 casting and 1 spinning.  I also bought 2 Aetos - 1 Spinning and 1 Casting..and my next purchase will be a Fenwick...either the new HMG or another Aetos.  I've become a Fenwick fan.  Quality rods and performance for a great price.
