Fishing North Of Fort Collins, Co

Featured Replies

Hey everyone. I live up in Northern Colorado. I work out of Fort Collins, so I fish the riverbend ponds before work or at lunch when I can. I live up in Livermore though and a few times now I have heard people say there is great fishing up here, and I have no idea what they're talking about. Anyone know where these "great places to fish" are? I live just east of 287. The only places I can find are in Wellington and most of them seem like private lakes. How can I tell what is public? I am guessing all the fishing is west of me. Thanks for the help!

The nearest "decent" lake that is Public is either Horsetooth west of FC or Douglas west of wellington. You might have to drive a bit but we fished Lonetree today and all did well.

PS also might try to join a bass club. Centenial bass club is out of FC. They run a lot of tournaments and are a great bunch of guys. You can go as a non boater and have a chance to fish and learn some of the local lakes.

Yeah, I have gone out to Douglas before, but not Horsetooth. I have been thinking about joining the Centennial Bass Club, but we are moving soon. I may just wait until we do move. We are moving to Texas. Thanks for the info!

Well, someone told me about Seaman Reservoir, but I drove up there and the rode was closed. I'm going to be down in Loveland tomorrow, so maybe I can try out Lonetree. Do you have to pay to park there?

Oh, and is Lonetree a place where you should really have a boat? It seems like it is that way with Boyd. Is there any good cover near shore? I don't really want to waste a ton of time walking around only to see not much structure or cover from the bank. Thanks for all the help.

Well, it looks like there is only a couple more tournaments for Centennial Bass Club. I guess I'll sign up towards the spring if I'm going to be here next year.

Well, I tried out Lonetree this morning. Slightly raining, not enough to stop me, but I spent about 30 minutes walking from the boat ramp parking to nearly halfway around the lake and decided I didn't have enough time to get to the one spot I thought might be good and turned around and walked back. That being said, is there a faster way to get to that little cove around the northeast corner walking? That seems to be the best spot to bank fish. Otherwise it looks like a lot of the lakes around here that are really only worth it if you have a boat.

Sorry for the delay we have been out of town Elk hunting. Lonetree is good early in the AM and PM  right now on Buzz baits. The best way to fish it is with a boat but plenty of shore op's there as well. It has several 3-4 lb fish some will get to 6-7 In the spring when the weeds are showing it is a hollow body frog bait bonanza. I am out of town next weekend but I'd be more then happy to get you out there in the boat before real cold weather hits.

I understand. Elk hunting sounds fun, how did you do? Well I can certainly give the buzzbaits a try. Getting out on a boat sounds pretty amazing. If it wouldn't be too much trouble I would love to go. Let me know when you have time and I should be able to clear my schedule. Thank you so much!
