Kentucky Lake, Big Ten Championship Boaters

Featured Replies

Purdue University and the University of Illinois will be hosting the 12th annual Big Ten Classic on Kentucky Lake out of Ken Lake Marina. The Big Ten Classic is the oldest annual tournament in college fishing and anglers from 11 big ten schools from across the Midwest will be competing. Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Penn State all will be in attendance ready to tackle Kentucky Lake!

The tournament will be held on Sunday, October 27th; with the official practice day being Saturday, October 26th. In the past this was always a 'boater' tournament, meaning the collegiate anglers were able to compete without having a boat of their own. Throughout the years less boaters have stepped up putting more pressure on teams to bring their own boats. This may not be an issue for some teams but for those taking seven hour rides the gas mileage does add up and is completely out of pocket.

With that being said, there are still many schools and anglers that are in need of a boater for Saturday and Sunday coming this October. We greatly appreciate the time you will be committing to this tournament and to helping pass on the "fishing gene" to the next generation! Anglers are aware that we will be requiring them to pay their boaters for gas that was exhausted during tournament and practice days. We have also urged they pack a light lunch for their boater and anything other accommodations you may need. The more boaters we have, the more collegiate anglers we will be able to get involved in this storied tournament. Not only will you be helping out a team but you will also witness history as some of the best anglers in college compete in the oldest collegiate tournament. Please consider boating if you have free time the weekend of October 25-27th, again, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.
