Trying to fend off the dinks

Featured Replies

Every so often ill get into a fish that weighs 2 lbs or more. Otherwise its Dink city.I wouldsay my Strength is Dropshotting,I always catch something on a DS.. Ive sized up my baits from 3 to 4 inches but im still in the dinks.

Whats a good size dropshot bait that might fend off the dinks and get me into larger fish?

Ive thrown 5 inch Stickbaits (senkos) and again its Dink city. How big am I gonna have to go on my Dropshot to get away from these dinks?

Larger baits can only do so much for you, its more about getting the bait in front of the right size fish.

Try jigs. If you are in deep water, increase the weight. I catch a lot of dinks with a drop shot. The size of the fish seems to increase with jigs.

Bigger baits will help. Normally you won't catch as many, but the quality will improve.

Location, Location, Location. Your fishing where the small fish live. Not saying that key locations don't have some small fish also but if your in dink city its not the bait its the location.

5" stick baits are dink magnets as well imo. id suggest DSing a super fluke , 6"+ lizard , 8" taper tails and other 6"+ baits. i dont DS much since i fish from shore and ive lost plenty of tackle to snags but those should weed out the dinkers.

The only way you are going to eliminate the dinks is to quit fishing.

Try backing out to the next drop from where you are fishing. Doesn't have to be a big drop either. Sometimes they will set up on a 1-2' drop out away from the area you are in.

Turn around and face the other way. Many times that's all it takes.

Good luck
