Early morning /late evening.

Warm weather.

Yes.

The above answers are not absolute. JMHO

Late spring - early fall. Around any type of cover (docks, rocks, wood, etc) or over grass. From shoreline to about 8 ft is prime, but I've also caught over grass in 10-12ft. Early and late in the day are best, but some big fish come midday on buzzaits for some reason. It's always good to try a few cast with one before you leave a spot.

Anytime you would normally be throwing another topwater lure.

***You are totally missing the boat if you fail to pick it up midday when you have a chop on the water and a little cloud cover. Eighty percent of my fish over seven are caught between 10:00-4:00pm.***

Black with a silver or gold blade is my most consistant color.

Good luck

Throw it everywhere man! Any season, any time, any water, any light. Don't limit the buzzbait to springtime at dusk. But do pick up another one that's either a little heavier or lighter. Try the lighter one when it's calm. Also try a squeaker vs. a clacker. Generally, squeakers are better in the clearer shallow water too. Personally, I don't like the clacker models but, for deeper water, a lot of noise might be the trick. You can usually bend your squeaker so the blade ticks the wire or jig head and make it a clacker though.

Cast parallel to the shore when you can. Hit the outside of lily pads, run it right through grass and over submerged weeds. Bump  stumps and run them right down logs. After a while, you'll see that you can even throw these things into the middle of a lily pad field and they won't get hung up. I use braid for buzzing and try to keep all the line out of the water. I usually color the first few feet of it with a black Sharpie. Vary your retrieve speed too. Some folks burn their buzzers. But super slow, just enough to keep the blades turning, is another option. You can also bend the blade at the curve for more, or less, disturbance and bubble trail.  It's also the first, and usually only, thing I go for in the rain.

Dirty Ol bassdid is correct. This is the best time of year for the buzzbait. ANY BRAND. The water is cooling. The shad are moving and the bass are following. You can throw it any time of the day. There are times where I never put it down and just cover massive amounts of water. MY BIGGEST FISH OF THE YEAR comes in the fall on a buzzbait. Just target any area that looks bassy. Prime dephts are one foot to 6 foot of water. Shallow bass are active bass . They are there for a reason-EATING . Vegetaion will start to die off now. the first thing they move to is rock or wood. target them

thanks for the help guys, i will probably try it on claytor this week while prefishing.

One more thing: It's easy to instantly react and yank your buzzbait away from the fish when they first explode on it. And trust me they sometimes EXPLODE. So hold on to your hat and, like with frog fishing, wait a couple seconds to set your hook; especially if you're using braid. I find they do a good job hooking themselves on buzzbaits anyhow.

Buzzbaits do trigger short strikes too. I think it's when a bass is more angry with the buzzer than hungry. Keep retrieving that bait back to you though. I've caught plenty of fish, on the same cast, after they missed the first hit. A lot of folks say to throw a stickbait at the spot of missed buzzbait strike. That's a tried tactic for a lot of folks, so you might want to have one at the ready.

Myself, I keep on throwing the buzzbait! ;D

All the time.

Any place.

I don't think they hit buzzbaits on Claytor.

Just kidding.

Throw a 1/4 ounce black in the early AM or evening.

Throw a 1/4 ounce white during the day.

Balance reel and bait with rod so that when the buzzbait hits the water your spool stops and you can start to wind back in immediately, or even before the bait hits the water.

Throw the buzzbait everywhere including parallel to the bank in the AM and PM.

Have a Senko on a spinning rig ready to throw to the spot where the bass hit the buzzbait and missed. Throw that Senko to the exact spot.

Let us know how you do.  :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of buzzbait fishing - once you hook a big ol hawg, you will never go back!  One thing missing from the advice above though (unless I just missed it) use a trailer hook - somebody mentioned short strikes, this can help turn 'em into braggin stories.

ok thanks guys, ill def be throwing it this sunday.

I will throw them all day if its cloudy or in shade.  I mainly use a 1/4 oz buzz bait.  I think they hit it better than the bigger, noisier ones they are used to seeing. I was trolling a buzzbait back to the dock and caught a six and a half pounder in 40 feet of water so I would definately say it works in 4-8 ft.

This is the time of the year when the big girls are feeding - late Sept early Oct- EVERY YEAR like clock work I get my biggest bass of the year  on buzz baits.  I have had my freakn thunbs raw and almost bloody from lippn them-The numbers are caught now as well. Just grab a few buzz baits and hit the water. if you dont bring anything else you will be forced to throw it. Learn to manipulate it-Learn the little  or better yet learn your own little tricks and techniques. You will be glad you did.

yes to all of the above.

and the answer to your next question.....

cavitron. ;D

I always have a buzzbait on hand, all season long. They're among the most versatile lures. Try experimenting with different speeds and rod-tip positions. This can have a significant effect on the lures action and varies from brand to brand.

I prefer a 3/8 oz Cavitron and often pluck out a few skirt stands to give the body a smaller profile.  I strongly prefer using 17# monofilament line as it is limp and easy casting and has some stretch, which results in more hook-ups without the need for trailer hooks, which make the lure foul in weeds more often.
