I am thinking of walking baits like the lucky craft sammy.  I know that berkley made a frenzy walker for a while but it is a terrible lure.  I am wondering if berkley has ever made any other walking topwater lures. 

We are fishing a berkley baits only tournament and discontinued lures are OK.  I just don't know the complete history of berkley lures.

I'm not aware of any other walking the dog type baits from Berkley.

Why don't you like the frenzy walker?

They made a pop-R type bait that wasn't bad. It was in the Frenzy line up also.

The lake Murray big bass challenge. My first thought was to get some gulp and go striper fishing. All the BIG bass are cruising with the stripers feeding on bait fish.

Berkley made the best walking popper I have ever used.

The frenzy walker does not have enough tail weight.  If you ever look at a walking topwater lure that is really fat and holds its diameter from the head towards the tail, and then gets skinny all the sudden, that lure is not going to walk easy.  You may say, well the sammy is streamlined and it is.  The difference is that the sammy's taper is constant and they have a good place in the lure for tail weight.  If you ever look at a sammy at rest, the bait sits tail down and only about an inch of the lure is actually above the water.  The frenzy walker sits dead level in the water.  That is not a killer but you can tell it does not have enough weight in the tail.  I have played with this enough lately to find the necessary amount to add in order to get the bait to walk easier.  Also the colors are terrible.  We custom painted a couple but the stupid thing still won't hardly get any bites.

Steve,  Which popper are you refering to?  Was that the berkley frenzy popper?
