Norman Square billed waker tuning

Featured Replies

I got a couple of these and one runs good but the other runs onto its side when retrieved at a faster speed. I may not have tuned it correctly because it keeps rolling onto its side. Any suggestions?

I have no knowledge as to how a wake bait should be tuned, but the first thing I'd try is to tune it like a regular crankbait. You didn't say how you tuned it, but with a crankbait you bend (not twist) the line tie in the opposite direction from where the bait is running.

If repeated adjustments don't fix the problem, then it's probably defective.

I'm not at all surprised to hear a Norman lure is out of tune. The only Norman lure I ever used regularly was a Deep Baby N. A great lure but those needed tuning much more than any other bait I owned.

1 out of 3 needs tuned out of the box and 1 out of 3 of those is hopeless trash. Shame too cuz norman baits flat out catch the heck out of fish if you get a good one.

When you bend it in the opposite direction it is running you need to bend it VERY slightly, basically just putting pressure on it.Toss the bait out and check to see if it is correcting itself. As long as you didnt bend the crap out of the eye and it is still flopping then the bait is probably just defective like Marty said.Chalk up another loss and more money spent.

I did just try bending it Marty but I dont have a good set of need nose pliers so maybe I twisted it. The good news is it does run true at lower speed retrieves so at least Ive got that much goin for me ;)

Some baits are meant to run slower. If it's running on it's side , you are definately cranking too fast.JMHO
