Was thinking of going with the Avid 7'0" M/Mod rod paired with a Lews BB1 Speed Spool for 1/4-5/8oz cranks. Fluorocarbon 10-12lb. Looking for a very smooth casting setup, does this sound like a good setup for what ill be throwing?

Also, im into lipless cranks now too, will this setup be great for them too?

What exactly is this multi stop anti reverse thing that the 5.1:1 BB1's have? This reel sounds amazing im just confused on this feature, dont want to order the reel and be unhappy with it.

Might depend on how fishing lipless cranks. I like a fast rod for fishing lipless in through weeds seem to rip them out better/easier. Dont know how whippy the med mod Avid is but have MLmod Avid and it has some fair amount of flex which for small 1.0 crankbaits works well. 5/8oz if recall is upper limit with the M/M so may feel underpowered but thats just a guess

 

Cant help much on reel but Im interested in the BB1 Pro it be used mostly for lipless crank, read favorable comments on its braking system.

From what I understand, the 5:1 bb1 will allow a little intentional back-play which is supposed to help with "delaying" the hookset with treble hooks. The 6:1 nad 7:1 will not have this feature. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as lipless cranks, I prefer a 6:1 ratio. I also use this for squarebills. Gear wise, I think youve picked out some solid pieces. Just a matter of preference as to how fast a reel and how strong a rod you want.

I'll echo QUAKEnSHAKE, ithe set up you are looking at will be fine except for lipless, it will be fine if you throw a lipless cranking in open water fishing around such structure as drop offs, ditches, and humps. If you throw lipless cranks over weed beds and like to rip them free (awesome technique BTW) then you may want to use a fast action or a stout moderate fast action, basically a rod that isn't as soft as a cranking rod.

Generally, yes. Don't think of multi stop as a necessity however.
