Rod For My Shimano 2500

Featured Replies

What's up guys, right now I have this on an 5ft UL, but I'm thinking it might be to large for this rod. What do you guys recommend for rod size, backbone, and action. Keeping in mind that I am a bank fisherman.  I see people us their spinning gear for drop shots, jigs with grubs and so on. I guess I would use this for lighter tackle and lures. Definetly want use it for bass. This would also be a set up my wife would use because she is not coordinated enough to use a baitcaster :laugh5: plus she just wants to catch anything.  I probaply just get her one of those pink or purple lady fishing rods.  So lets keep it to all about me :eyebrows:  it will be for bass then.  Thanks for your help ahead of time.

A rod for those applications, I would look at something 6'6 - 7' M/F. If you're fishing from the bank a 7' might not be a bad idea for extra casting distance. The actual rod will depend on your budget.

I use a 6'10 MXF for my all around spinning rod, with 10lb line it's versatile enough for me with many different techniques.

You can always get her an Avid Pearl 6'8MXF, nothing like jewelry on a stick :D

Thanks for the replies, what about an 6ftr because of trees, bushes on the banks

That would not be to big for an Shimano 2500?

not at all. I use a 25 and a 30 on a 6'10 and 6'6, respectively

What techniques do you use them for?

Mostly shakey heads and wacky rigs, but I will throw a drop shot, finesse jig, weightless senko and light texas rigs.

When I bank fish I tend to find ways to make my limited supply of tools work with other applications. Using a smaller rod will get into those tight spots of course, but having a longer rod you can cast farther and learn to pitch under the branches will be a better middle ground.

I like this for most applications with that size reel. If space is real tight you may want a 6'.

6'6"

Medium

I am a huge fan of the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth series rods.  They offer a 6'3" MF spinning rod...1/8-3/4 oz., 6-12 lb. line.  This would make an excellent all-around rod for close quarters.

That's a nice Rod, but right now that's a little rich for my blood. MAybe something into 50 $-75$ range I can deal with.

To clarify I already have two baitcasting set ups an 6ft and an 7ft. I want to start using this spinner for more finesse or shaky, Jersey, split shot and the likes.
