Is Shimano Getting Rid Of The......

Featured Replies

Core.series? I've heard from a few people they will be discontinued next year. Does anyone.have and proof and explanation on why they're doing it? I might need to start hoarding them.

I heard rumors that the Core and Chronarch 200e will be discontinued due to a new curado moving in. Supposed to be released by next Classic show.

I don't know about you all, but I can't wait for the TW 50% chronarch sale! I might just buy 3-4 of em!

It seems strange to discontinue core as it is in between the chronarch and Calais. Maybe they are revamping the core and curado lines? The profile of the core is abit large compared to their other reels.

Figure

New curado - $179-199

Chronarch ci4 - $269

Current or revamped core - $349-399

Calais/Antares - $499

Unless they are introducing an entirely new reel or want the jdm reels to fill the gap, it seems strange to have that big a jump between price points

I can't see them parting with the Core just yet. The Metanium is at the 400 dollar mark so who really knows. They have been pushing the micro gearing pretty hard, so who knows.

I sure as heck hope not though. I love my two Core's

They have metaniums going for 350ish on amazon.

Just for clarity the profile of the core 100 series may be slightly larger than other shimano casting reels. The core 50mg is as small a profile reel as shimano has ever built.

I couldn't care if they got rid of the 100's, its the 50's I LOVE.

The old metanium mg and DC was still in the shimano japan 2013 catalog.  I wonder if they will still be in the 2014 version. I guess we will find out after the new year. Shimano seems to be revamping the line up starting from the top and working their way down. So the Scorpion series should be next which is in line with the reports of a new Curado.

Wish they would just bring back the chronarch d5/7.. They didn't have a long enough run. *wipes tear*

I'm lucky enough to have a d7 I got in mint condition.....I shan't let it go

It wasn't selling well is why it was discontinued.

One thing that irritates me about shimano, is a lot of reels seem to debut or only come in right handed models. One of the core models is one of them. Late 2012 I was going to get one but ended up opting for the Chronarch. Another thing is some of the reels will only come in left for one speed and not the others. I think offering so many price points is actually hurting them in the long run.

I am wondering what shimano is going to do with the DC reels in the USDM... Only one DC reel right now and it is $50 more than the antares hg, a reel with all of the new features shimano has (except DC of course). I think they should bring over the exsence DC, which has the same body as the chrony d5/7, and DC of course! It is also right around the 100 size...

Only problem is that it would be priced at around $450..
