shaky head

Featured Replies

I would like to know what size of and type of plastics and what size of jig heads work best for shaky head style ?

Get a variety of sizes and depending on the weather conditions, choose the lightest you can get away with. I like a more subtle presentation so I like a 5/18 oz. Personally I like gander mountains (Idk if you have them) shaky heads, great quality shaky jig, otherwise try Picasso shakedown

As far as plastics, the possibilities are endless! But sometimes a basic roboworm finesse worm is the ticket

5/18ths    Freakn new math always confuses the $hiy outta me LOL

I use 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 most often. 1/8 is the most used out of all of them.

Usually I use a plain ball-head jig with a long shank light wire Gamaktsu hook.

1/16 for very shallow water and skipping around docks. 1/8 for same conditions when it's windy or the fish are mostly hitting it on the bottom and you want it down there quicker. 3/16 for a little deeper water - say down to 15-feet or so. 1/4 for deeper than that, especially when it's windy. I like any straight tail worm most of the time, from Zoom's finesse to Kalin's Weenie Worm.

Sometimes I'll use a small curl-tail worm as it makes the lure drop right beside cover precisely versus the spiraling fall of a straight tail worm.

I use 1/8oz and 1/4oz the most, and a round jig head. *** produced a really neat one that had a second hook to hold the plastic. As for plastic I have had my best results with a 6" Flat Belly Baby Boa from Dichoso Baits. It's similar to that of a trick worm, but you're able to pick and customize what color, flake, softness of plastic, buoyancy, and all that good stuff. It gives me confidence knowing I have a custom bait while others are throwing a mass produced bait that fish have seen a lot.

1/8 and 1/4 mostly. I like Picasso Shake E football heads and the megastrike ones a lot, but also use owner ultrahead finesse ball heads for their EWG hook.

Worms that have worked for me include roboworm zipper worms, Jackall Flick Shake 5.8 and 6.8" worms (ridiculously soft and wiggly), and the Netbait 5.8" Slim Shake worms. My favorite are the netbait ones because they're really thin and give a ton of action. They're almost as good as the Jackalls, but at about a fifth of the price - right around 14 cents a worm, which is pretty darned good.

1/16 and 1/8 Picasso Shakedown when I'm staying higher in the water column.

1/8 to 1/4 MegaStrike E2 Pro for all other times.
