Any body try the i pad with the navionics gold app installed?

I have the navionics on my iPad and iPhone.  Both are awesome.  For 10 bucks you can't beat them.

I don't use the Gold version, I use the inland lakes version on my Android phone, and a couple of Android tablets.

Do you need a cell tower signal,or 3g/4g, or does the app operate off the gps signal like my lowrance chart?

Only gps I believe.  I have used mine from Pickwick to Okeechobee.

Does it wear out your phone battery quickly leaving your gps on like that?

Certainly does. The GPS antenna is another piece of hardware to support.
