I recently posted about finding the right fish finder and was in the market for one but for christmas "santa" ended up bringing me what seems to be an awesome little starter unit! So now i am trying to decide on how to mount it! I was wondering if the sully transducer lcr mount is a good setup or not? Ive read the reviews and everyone sais the instructions suck which isnt a big deal im sure i can figure it out! But the setups gonna be on a 14 foot jon boat and im looking for something that's not permanent because i dont have a trailer so i just throw it in the bed of the truck or in my van. If anyone has some setup pics or ideas let me know! I've youtubed a lot of videos and didnt really have much luck on seeing setups so im open to all suggestions!!!! Thank you!

For my gunboat fishing I like to mount the transducer on the trolling motor.  

 

I screwed the sonar mount onto a 14 inch long piece of 1 X 8" pressure treated wood and then attached the sonar unit.  I just put this on the bow seat or floor - whatever gives you the best view.  When you're done fishing just disconnect the transducer cable and toss it in the back seat of your vehicle.

 

 

Mine is screwed to a 2x2 and bolted hand tight with wing nuts, to the side with the round clamps like muffler clamps. Works fine. But I'm glueing it in with duck seal and see how that works. They make an arm for them I think. Look at member Goose canoe pic. Someone else mentioned one.

Look for the post about kayak mounting of the transducer to see the duck seal idea.

I couldn't decide where to mount the LCD screen. Finally screwed it to a piece of 2x10. So I could just move it around. The sun will glare on the screen sometimes making it hard to see. So being able to move it is nice.

Never heard of this, but I just looked it up. I made a similar mount for my canoe with a few pieces of scrap 1x2, galvanized deck screws and a cabinet hinge. Even if I would have bought the material the build cost would have been around $10. I'm sure the Sully mount works fine, fwiw. 

 

Another option is to do a shoot-thru-hull mount, which is pretty much permanent but on the inside of the hull. I've never done this on an aluminum hulled boat, but from what I've heard it works fine on hulls as thick as .250"; most jon boats are .05-.125". You also sacrifice surface temperature readings with this option. 

 

Probably the cheapest and easiest method would be to attach it with a suction cup. The trolling motor mount is also good.

If you put the bracket just high enough on the transom of your boat it shouldn't hit the ground or anything when your loading it it is permanent though but that's how I've always done it

ya i just dont know how well the suction cup will hold if i run into some brush or whatever!

I think he meant just bolt the trans to the back like normal.

Had a duhh when I read snake heads post. And on down. Sully mount.

If you trans is flat on the bottom. (Unless its a round one? )

I'd just glue it in. It will shoot threw the bottom of the boat. They say the duck seal is removable. Some one said it takes about five min for the temp to read after the boats in the water. That was on plastic. Aluminum would be much faster. How ever I don't no how accurate. If yours has temp. I'd ask a boat shop or here before I did it if it's a concern.
