Don't let the cold temps fool you when there is snow on top of the ice. This can cause layers of air pockets in the ice so it's not so solid as it seems so beaware. I like to use a ice stick in front of me stabbing the snow in front of me making sure it's solid and not air pockets. Stay away from the moving water areas too that's thin ice. Know the place your fishing at when there is no ice.

Never done ice fishing. Do you fish for bass or something else?

Fish for walleye !!!!! And if I'm bored ill fish for pike. I'm not much of a panfish but a lot of people do it!
