ok say your on a weedy flat or anything really when would you choose to swim a jig over say a spinnerbait and why?

I can't say I know the whole answer to this, and I have been learning swim jiggin for the last year or two. But the guy that is teaching me the most says that they work best when the water is clear to slightly stained and the fish are spooky and don't want a lot of disturbance in the water like you would get with a spinner bait. Now I haven't figured out how to ask which they prefer yet and I'm still experimenting, but I do know this technique works and plan on continuing to learn.

I was kind'of wandering about this issue miself: Is there a certain factor that will make a "swimming jig" better than a spinnerbait ??? When? Where ? Why ?

Also, why swimming a jig and not a T-rigged 6" curly tail worm, a grub or other soft plastic ???

I usually swim a jig when everybody else is throwing spinnerbaits. I especially like to go behind the guys that have been beating the banks to death with their spinnerbaits and throw that swimming jig and catch all the fish that they missed because they were throwing the same thing those fish have been seeing for years.

I'll usually have a swiming jig tied on one rod along with a spinnerbait on another and try both.

The fish will decide for me.

I really like jig fishing but I catch virtually all of my fish with a jig on the drop.

I can only think of a couple of instances where I caught fish swimming the jig.

what's the secret?

Shad_Master pretty much covered it as far as I am concerned.  I tend to lean toward this bait as my primary.  I am not suggesting that the swim jig is an end-all, do-all, but rather that I gravitate toward water that this works best in.  Not much different than a flipper looks for his type water.
