Darter Heads

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I would like to know about fishing darter heads.  Please give me the details.  What setup do you use?  Weight, bait, rod, reel, line.  How do you present them and when are they most successful?  Thanks.

Rich

My favorite all around setup is a Dobyns DX702sf with some 6lb floro. I usually throw a 1/4oz head for most of my fishing situations with a 6inch roboworm in either warmouth or oxblood. 99% of the time I'm just gonna drag it and shake it along the bottom slowly. Youll get a lot of bites with this technique and its a great way to catch pressured fish or when the fish dont seem to want to bite anything else.

Ok thanks! I will throw them on my 702SF.  How thick of cover would you throw them in?  Docks? Weeds? Or are they best suited for sparse cover?

I usually try to avoid any kind of weeds when I throw my dart heads since I rig them up so they have an exposed hook. I throw mine on rocky and clay banks for the most part. If theres any kind of cover around I'll use a shakey head instead, to prevent hangups.

I also rig mine on a Dobyns DX702C but I use 12lb test. I will put just about anything on a Darter Head but my favorite is a Zoom Fat Albert Grub. I love to fish it along the edge of a weed line. I get it stuck in the weeds and then rip it out for a great reaction bite. I will also reel it at a regular pace and just pop my rod tip as I'm reeling. It's a very versatile head but the exposed hook can suck around brush.
