I am doing a Bass fishing trip in Late April on the James River Watershed in Virginia and would like to know some good advice for finding the better quality fish then!

Bigger bass are in the Chickahominy River system.

VG&IF stocked the Chick River with Florida Strain bass and the population is doing very well.

Billy, please 1) introduce yourself in the Introductions section and 2) add your location to your avatar.

Thanks.

Also what part of the James and what are you chasing, brown bass or the green ones?

And where are you launching?

What type of boat and motor do you have?

Do you know how to fish tidal rivers?

Do you have the GMCO maps of the James, Appomattox and Chickahominy Rivers?

Can you use a spinning rig?

Can you flip and pitch?

Do you have a push pole on the boat in case you get stuck on a sand bar or mud flat?

Power poles on your boat?

Know what a water moccasin looks like?

Have your Safe Boating Certificate from your state? Bring a copy with you.

Have access to weather reports for the area you will be fishing and while you are on the water?

Have you set up your color path on your electronics so you can get back to your launch site to go home?

Give us more information and we can help you have a fun time on the Historic James River and its tributaries.

Two more suggestions.

I can send you the link for the Historic James River tides so you can fish the outgoing tide as best you can.
