7 Foot Or Slightly Longer Spinning Rod For Worms.

Just bought a new Daiwa  SS 1300 to be shipped to my brother-in-law.  Want to pick up a rod to go with it.  I think his most expensive combo is around $70.  Would like to see him with something a little better.  Was looking at the possibility of a 7'MHF Vendetta or Vengence or the 7'2' MHF Sellus.  Called local Walmart by him, but they said no rods are currently on sale.

As far as these rods are concerned I only know what I've read on here.  He fishes a weightless 10" worm the vast majority of the time.  Which of these 3 rods would be best?  If there are other rods with similar prices that I should be looking at, please feel free to mention them.  I'd like to keep the price at $100 or less....preferably less, but I don't want to go too cheap.  I'd like him to have an outfit better than any he currently uses.

Actually I just now thought of the Lightning rods.  However, I'm not sure if they would compare favorably to the 3 I've already mentioned.  Thanks.

EDIT:  Should add that he is usually throwing into and around lily pads or into weeds.

The Abu Veritas is currently $79.99. It was $99.99 previously.

If you can wait, the big sales at Bass Pro is coming up,also check the bargan bin at Cabelas. Also TW has a classic sale right now,not to mention the flea market on this site.

Some good rods can be had even if you have to pay 8.00 extra for shipping a rod. You will get alot better choices and can have it shipped to his house if you like.

Good luck in your search.......

Where?  Is it at TW with the Classic sale?  Is the Classic sale still running, and if so, for how long?

TW has the *** on sale. The 7'1"MH would be great for worms.

I like the looks of the spinning rod handle much better than the casting rod handle.  Minimum rating is 3/8 oz.  Anyone know how much a 10" worm and 5/0 hook weighs?

TW sale ends tomorrow (25th).  I'd have to agree with the *** 7'1"MH for what you are looking for.  I'd stick with a MH since you're wanting to throw a 10" worm not to mention fish it around pads and weeds.  You're gonna want the extra muscle to be able to move a bigger fish out of the cover.

Sorry for not being more specific. I know the veritas is going for 79.99 at Cabelas and bass pro. I just checked TW and it looks like it's still 99 there.

$80 veritas, check if they have dicks down there.

Lol that sounds odd

Our has them listed down and they have a decent variety if you want to pick one up, I know you like diversification in your rods :D

dick's...rods....down.....are we still talking fishing here?  :teeth:

All I know is that I've had a 7'MHF spinning rod for worms and plastics and it sucked. I was fishing my worms weightless and and sometimes with a 3/16 or 1/4 weight and the rod just wouldn't load up. It sucked.

It has been suggested in a PM that I go with a Medium....especially if an Abu rod.  My only concern was the cover he fishes in.  You are correct.  Trying to throw a lure that won't load a rod is no fun.  My 7'6" MHF Villain is rated for 3/8-1 1/4 oz.  Forget 3/8 oz.  I won't be using less than 5/8 oz. with this rod.

The rod loading isn't as significant with a spinning reel, in my opinion. You'll still be able to fling a 10" worm a long way. When he hooks a fish in the muck, he'd appreciate the backbone.

I'm glad you already know what I'm talking about! A medium would be great--much more enjoyable.
